With India’s G20 Presidency in 2023, India is set to lead the discussions on the emerging challenges among the major developed and developing economies of the world.

In the upcoming G20 meeting, India will hold the presidency and it is scheduled to take place in New Delhi and Kashmir. Traditionally, over the years at the multilateral forums, India has been playing a reluctant role in the decision making for negotiated terms of the agreements. This will be an opportunity for India to shed its reluctance and position itself in a leadership role.

In the previous G20 meetings, various aspects of digital economy have been covered, ranging from ‘Digitalisation for Social and Economic development’ in Turkiye (2015) & in China (2016), and in Argentina (2018) with G20 Digital Governance Principles’, to Japan’s (2019) Digital Ministers’ commitment with responsible use of human-centered AI, which also followed up in Saudi Arabia’s (2020) agenda. In the starting of this decade, Italy (2021) led the agenda on Digital security and lastly with Indonesia focusing on Digital skills & Capacity Building in 2022.
